Tips For Losing Weight This Holiday Season

According to statistics, the average person gains 10 pounds during the holiday season. Perhaps that is why so many New Year’s Resolutions are about getting fit and losing weight. If you want to avoid putting on the weight instead of struggling to take it off after you’ve gained it, or if you are trying to lose weight and want to continue to lose during the holidays, here are some tips.

Chew Gum

Chewing gum is a great way to keep from snacking or over-eating. One of the easiest ways to let the calories creep up is simply by tasting what you are cooking. A little taste of this and a smidge of that and soon you have racked up a significant amount of caloric intake. By chewing gum during cooking sessions, it will be more difficult for you to snack as you will have to remove the gum from your mouth. There are many different flavors of gum that you can choose from too. If you like sweets, you may want to choose “dessert flavored gum”. You can save calories and not have to deprive yourself of your dessert this way. Some flavors include mint ice cream and apple pie!

Have a Plan

By creating a plan that includes allowing yourself some treats during the holiday, you will probably do much better than just deciding to not eat any holiday treats. In addition, you might want to cut your caloric intake before an event in order to make sure that you don’t eat too many calories which can result in weight gain. For example, if you have a party to go to in the evening, you might want to eat a light breakfast and lunch.

Drink Water

Before and during the event, be sure to drink water. The water will hopefully fill you up and you won’t be as tempted to eat a lot during holiday events. In addition, drinking water during a party can also help you save calories. Although the beverages at a party might be great, they are also full of calories which can cause you to gain weight.

Keep Your Exercise Routine

During the holidays, life can get quite busy. If you have an exercise routine, it is important to continue that routine, even if you might be tempted to stop in order to fit in other activities. Not only will your exercise routine help you to burn off calories and maintain your weight, but it will also help you to better deal with holiday stress and strife. Since some people tend to eat a lot when they get stressed or anxious, being proactive and dealing with stress before it gets to be too much to handle is a great way to prevent over eating sessions.

If you follow the above suggestions, you can still participate in holiday festivities and lose the weight that you want as well. That sounds like a win/win situation!
